Padmavati Controversy- Release Date Postponed By Makers

PadmavatiPadmavati, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie has been surrounded by numerous controversies from the day the movie’s shoot begun. The movie has to be released on 1sr December 2017, but now the date is postponed by its makers. Many threats from religious along with political organizations were received by Padmavati as they consider that Padmavati movie content is distasteful and it also misrepresents India’s olden times. The controversies to date seem as it will not end, in spite of assurance given by makers that there is no dream sequence amid Rani Padmavati, i.e. Deepika and Khilji, i.e. Ranveer.Padmavati

The two songs along with the film trailer are released so far, but many organizations have pointed many lies that are shown in Padmavati footage. Padmavati starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor is alleged to be inspired by classic poem ‘Padmavat’. However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has a different belief to present. According to him inspiration of Padmavati movie is taken from 1966 movie Amrapali.

Below we have listed controversies surrounding Padmavati:

  • Accidents on the sets of Padmavati

In December, a painter, who was working on bigger than life sets of Padmavati fell from the height of about five feet. Deepika expressed grief on the demise of the man along with it Bhansali also tried to pay compensation for the accident.

  • Vandalism on Padmavati sets in Jaipur

In January 2017, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was slapped, and his hair was also pulled on the sets of Padmavati by members of Rajput Karni Sena. The Rajput Sena has insisted that scenes amid Rani Padmavati and Khilji should be deleted. They also warned makers regarding the wrong facts. Many costly types of equipment of Padmavati film were also smashed on the ground and shooting of the movie was also stopped. 

  • Again vandalism on Padmavati sets in Kolhapur

Once again in March 2017 sets of Padmavati were vandalized and set on fire in Kolhapur. This time many animals present on the film’s sets were severely injured. It was reported that before blazing the sets, they also damaged the cars which were parked around the sets. The reason for all this is once again the same as previous. Many Rajput claimed that there was a dream sequence amid Padmavati and Khilji and was seen in intimate position. However, makers dismissed these things and said there was no such scene exists.

  • The first poster release of Rani Padmavati movie

In 2017 September, Karni Sena burnt the first poster of Padmavati movie. Groups of protestors collected in the front of Rajmandir Cinema Hall and shouted many slogans. Members of Karni Sena also threatened to be against the screening of the film in theatres if the facts are indistinct. As per the reports, Rajputana Sangh alleged that they would not tolerate any twist and will burn theatres if there will be any kind of romantic scene amid Padmavati and Khilji.

  • Rangoli destroyed

In 2017 October, the rangoli bearing Deepika Padukone’s first look in Padmavati movie was wrecked by protestors. It was reported that a crowd of about 100 people shouted Jai Shri Ram and spoiled intense work of 48 hours by an artist. Following this incident, Surat Police detained five people for purportedly destroying the rangoli.

  • BJP decided to write for temporary hold on Padmavati release

Following the protest of Karni Sena on 2nd November 2017 BJP decided to write CBFC, and Central government to for the short term hold the release of Padmavati film. This is owing to hurting the sentiments of Kshatriya community and attempted to link the two historical characters.

  • Rajasthan Chittorgarh roads blocked

On 3rd November 2017, hundreds of people came up to the streets and blocked roads in Chittorgarh city. This was owing to the protest regarding the Padmavati movie release. As per the protestors, the films have love scenes amid Padmavati and Khilji which were against their religious sentiments. National convener of Karni Sena said that we would not allow tampering with the history of India and we want that Bhansali should show Padmavati movie primarily to the members of Karni Sena.

  • Padmavati distributors are backing

On 7th November 2017, distributors alleged that they would not buy the distribution rights until the time the controversy surrounding Padmavati is resolved. A film distributor even alleged that we don’t want to be the part of controversy regarding the film and company has decided to not link with it unless all this is resolved.

  • Countryside ban on Padmavati

On 15th November 2017, Rajput Karni Sena called for countryside ban on 1st December that was the release date of movie Padmavati. An FIR was also filed against Padmavati movie maker Bhansali describing him as the habitual offender. Mr.Chintamani Malviya wrote a note to PM Modi and said that person like Sanjay Leela Bhansali not understand any language and will only understand the language of shoes.

  • Petition dismissed by Supreme Court

The petition was filed in Supreme Court against the release of Padmavati, but it was dismissed. At the time of dismissing the petition, Supreme Court alleged CBFC consider all phase before granting the certificate and so the court should interfere with Censor Board’s power.

  • Rajasthan government would screen Padmavati

Mr. Kataria, Home Minister of Rajasthan government, comprised a panel and alleged that the panel would study out the facts which differ from history and will present the report.

  • Haryana Protest and also seeks to ban

Bhansali statue was burnt in Sirsany Rajput community and alleged that we have many objections including the objection against the name of the movie. The movie should not be named as Padmavati. On the other hand, Haryana Health minister supposed that government requires a ban on Padmavati and will also approach CBFC for this.

  • Mewar royals demanded ban

Mewar royal family member Maharajkumar Vishvaraj Singh wrote a letter Smriti Irani along with censor board to hold back the Padmavati certification.

  • Comparison of Khilji character to acid attacker

Vipul Goel, Haryana Minister also wrote a letter to Smriti Irani and claimed that he had seen the Padmavati trailer and Khilji character is same to praising people who bring out acid attacks on girls nowadays. He said Khilji character would give you success on box office, but the movie will fail to do justice to country’s history.

  • Protest in Gandhinagar, Surat and seeking ban in Karnataka

More than one lakh people of Karni Sena held the protest in Gandhinagar not is permitted to release in Karnataka too. Members of Karni Sena also vandalized cinema hall in Kota as the activist were angry at the screening of teaser of Padmavati movie in the hall.

  • Police security for Bhansali and Deepika

Owing to threats Bhansali has been given police security. There was a threat from Ram Kadam, BJP MLA that they would not permit Bhansali to shoot any movie in future if he does not delete the unwanted scenes in Padmavati. Karni Sena members also warned to cut the nose of Deepika Padukone if the movie is released.

  • Five crores reward on Deepika and Bhansali

Meerut based Abhishek Som who is a leader has assured to offer five crore rupees to the individual who beheads Deepika Padukone and Bhansali.

  • Finally, release date postponed

Owing to all these controversies finally the release date of Padmavati postponed to next year that is in 2018 January.
